Carved Maine granite sculpture of an organic form on it’s artist made wooden base with a wave motif. 10.5”H 18”L 10.5”L

William Muir was a modernist sculptor and watercolorist who settled in Stonington Maine with his wife the noted artist Emily Muir. Muir’s work has been shown at the Metropolitan, the Whitney and Pennsylvania Academy. His organic sculptures were based on biological and plant forms. He also made the public sculpture by the wharves in Stonington, The Stone Cutter, a tribute to The Deer Isle Granite quarries.
